POINT-OF-SALE SYSTEMS

T he POS system is the workhorse of any res- taurant technology stack, and increasingly its importance is felt not just for enabling most transactions but also for recording and stor- ing the most important sets of data operators use for setting strategy. Because it’s often the central hub of many restaurants’ technology architecture, the keys to upgrading any POS are the breadth and depth of integrations they have with other solutions for loyalty and marketing programs, expediting orders in the kitchen, or managing sales coming from a growing number of digital-ordering platforms. Also in this section, find solutions from payments specialists designed to help further re- duce friction from the process. Surveys by Nation’s Restaurant News and Res- taurant Business found relatively high levels of satisfaction with the POS systems—more than 3 in 4 operators are either “somewhat satisfied” or “very satisfied”—yet its critical role in the business makes it a perennial target for future investment. In fact, 4 in 10 operators in the 2025 Restaurant Technology Outlook survey from Nation’s Restaurant News and Restaurant Business said they were likely to invest in their POS capabilities in the coming year. That number was even higher among quick-service respondents, where seamless, speedy transactions are critical. While wholesale POS system overhauls are mas- sive undertakings that happen rather infrequent- ly, it’s clear that operators are seeking greater functionality, integration and data management capabilities as they ramp up the volume of trans- actions from every channel.

One-vendor simplicity. 100% uptime. Satisfaction guaranteed. That’s the Fusion advantage.

CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE

The Right Training Changes Everything.

R estaurant operators’ top area of focus for the year ahead was driving traffic, and planned investments in tech — in marketing, digit- al-ordering channels and customer experience — naturally followed. The modern dining out experience for guests encompasses much more than food and beverage, and new solutions aim to leverage those chances for restaurants to differentiate. Many of this year’s innovations provide operators with more ways to incorporate data and digital convenience into their decor and signage, amenities, and atmosphere. Explore how guest preference data can integrate across a restaurant’s entire tech stack, gathered in real time to ensure the intent to return for another visit, and to be incorporated into strategies for the menu, marketing, and more.

A thriving restaurant runs on a trained, confident, and aligned staff. That’s where RestaurantOwner Learning System comes in.

Designed for independent restaurants, our customizable training platform helps restaurant owners and operators onboard faster, upskill smarter, and build a connected team.

VIDEO SECURITY Shrinking Margins, Growing Risks

BACK-OF-HOUSE TECH

C ustomer-facing technology may grab headlines, but many of the most innovative restaurant tech solutions are quietly making an impact behind the scenes. Guests may not even be aware of the ways technology is improving operations in the back office and the kitchen, yet they’ll definitely benefit when those investments lead to faster service, frictionless experien- ces and highly engaged staff, There’s almost no aspect of the back of house that hasn’t been disrupted by technology seeking to cut costs and boost efficiency behind the scenes. Restaurateurs are increasingly looking to enhanced tools for training and labor management and training, inventory and food prep, or safety and compliance to advance their custom- er service strategies, which many say is their greatest potential ROI for upgrading back-of-house tech. From ef- ficient kitchen hardware to new use cases for AI, recent innovations in the back of house aim to remove com- plexity so operators can focus more intently on running their restaurants.
